Getting Straight Teeth with Orthodontic Treatment
If crooked teeth keep your smile under wraps, but you don't want to spend years in braces, there is a quicker fix that might be for you: Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics.™ If you start soon, you could have that straight smile by New Year's 2016 — or sooner!
How It Works
Traditional orthodontic treatment usually requires one to three years1 to realign a smile. But Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (a.k.a., AOO or Wilckodontics®) typically does the work in just three to eight months.2
The speed is accomplished through a surgical technique that removes small amounts of bone around the roots of the teeth. This allows the orthodontic forces to more easily and rapidly move your teeth. Once they’re in place, the bone rebuilds itself.
After surgery, your orthodontist can use any form of orthodonture required for your particular needs, such as traditional brackets and wires.
Both adults and children can take advantage of AOO, as long as the patient has all of his or her permanent teeth.2 However, the procedure is not recommended if you have periodontal disease or endontic problems that have not been adequately addressed, if you have been using corticosteroids for long periods or if you are using a medication that slows bone metabolism, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs).3
Since it is a mildly invasive surgical procedure, AOO does carry some risks you don't encounter with conventional orthodontics. For instance, the patient may experience some pain and swelling after surgery.4
Your orthodontist can fill you in on all the specifics of AOO and help you decide if the procedure is right for you or your loved one. If it is, CareCredit can help you fit the cost into your budget with convenient monthly payments.
