An MCC is a four-digit classification code that is four-digit classicfication code that is assigned to the merchant by the merchant's payment card network or merchant processor based on the predominant activity of the merchant. For example, for purchases at health and wellness locations, the purchase of a fitness class at a community center has an MCC designation as a community center purchase. Synchrony does not assign or have the responsibility for the assignment of the MCCs and does not evaluate what MCC should be assigned to a particular merchant.
