• Pay attention to your billing cycles. A missed bill should never go unaddressed. If you don’t receive one, check it out to make sure there are no issues.

• Be cautious of e-mails requesting your account information or personal information, commonly called "phishing" e-mails. With any suspicious e-mail, always remember:

• If you do not recognize the sender, do not open it.
• If you do accidentally open it, do not click to download attachments or files.
• If anything on the e-mail prompts you to provide private information, such as account numbers or social security number — DO NOT DO IT!

• Always keep passwords private, and use a different password for each online account. Avoid obvious passwords and easy-to-find names and numbers like your birthday and phone number.
• Install firewalls and virus-detection software on your home computers. If you have a high-speed Internet connection, unplug the computer’s cable or phone line when you aren't using it.
